OrionM2M® develops a smart utilities network in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan

OrionM2M cover: smart utilities network in Astana, 75,000 radio modems on LoRaWAN®.

OrionM2M®, a developer and manufacturer of devices for the Internet of Things, has put 75,000 radio modems into operation in Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Radio modems made by OrionM2M® send readings of water, electricity and gas meters directly to suppliers twice a day over LoRaWAN®.

The wireless meter reading system for water and electricity covers both multi-apartment residential complexes and low-rise housing.

As a result of this IoT deployment, technical losses of electricity fell by 10% a year, and of water by 15%. Response time to accidents and pipe bursts became three times shorter, and the number of errors in collecting meter data dropped noticeably.

A telemetry network of this scale, built on OrionM2M® radio modems and base stations, became possible through close cooperation with Kazakhtelecom and Astel, the largest telecom operators of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A dedicated IoT platform for monitoring utility consumption, AMR One, was developed. Its functions included integration with existing billing systems and access to data analytics in the end user’s personal account and on the service provider’s administrator panel.

The radio modems are powered by a built-in battery, and thanks to the company’s BatteryCare® technology a device serves for at least 7 years without replacing the power source.

OrionM2M® follows a B2B strategy and invites dealers, integrators, service companies and everyone interested in selling or operating radio modems and software to work with us.
